How do you use a fire blanket?

1. Remove the extinguishing blanket from the package.
2. If there is no hand protection, twist the corners of the fire extinguisher around the hands.
3. Hold the blanket to protect your head and upper body with your arms outstretched in front of you and walk towards the fire.
4. Quickly place the fire blanket over the fire. Make sure it is sealed airtight all around.
5. Leave the extinguishing blanket over the fire source and have it removed only by the alerted fire brigade.

How does a fire blanket put out a fire?

Extinguishing blankets interrupt the oxygen supply in the event of a fire and thus suffocate the fire. Fire blankets may only be removed by the fire brigade as re-ignition of a fire can never be ruled out by renewed oxygen supply.

How big should a fire blanket be?

Fire blankets must be at least 5.4′ x 3.6′. Smaller fire blankets are unsuitable as they often do not completely cover the fire. For example, even with boilers, a 3′ x 3′ extinguishing blanket is not enough to seal everything airtight.

Is it possible to wash a fire blanket?

Fire blankets must always remain in their original packaging and may only be used once.
